General Information

Summary:
This course presents an overview of negotiating for PennDOT professionals, with an emphasis on skill development. It also addresses professional ethics, a framework for negotiation, and key points of negotiating. Negotiating styles and strategies are presented with a focus on skillful questioning and listening. There are several examples discussed. Exercises for class participation and discussion will be presented. A negotiating trouble-shooting guide and a negotiating checklist will also be provided and discussed.

Learning Outcomes:
- Define target, walk-away point, and best alternative to a negotiated agreement (BATNA).
 - List the interests of parties involved in negotiations with PennDOT .
 - Define the human needs of parties in a negotiation.
 - Define fiduciary responsibilities in negotiation.
 - Define transparency in negotiation.
 - Identify the advantages of different negotiation styles.
 - Define interest-based negotiations and positional bargaining.
 - Define the types of bias that affect negotiations.
