General Information

Summary:
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law in 1990. When construction or alterations occur, the altered construction within the limit of work must meet the latest ADA standards or provide access to the maximum extent possible. This webinar will focus on identifying the requirements of the ADA for pedestrian access, determining the alterations necessary and designing ADA compliant accessibility features, based on current ADA design standards.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the attendee will be able to:
•Access design guideline information from PennDOT, and U.S. Access Board sources;
•Identify non-compliant curb ramps and determine if newly constructed ramps are ADA compliant;
•Apply engineering judgment to design ADA compliant accessibility features for new construction and alteration projects;
•Implement the basic pedestrian accessibility requirements of the ADA and related PennDOT policy
