General Information

Summary:
This training will be a one-day class for PennDOT and business partner project managers and cross functional design services managers, specifically, traffic, right-of-way, utilities, bridge and highway engineers. The training will focus on a formal risk management approach to help participants optimize project performance (i.e., cost and schedule) in planning, design and construction phases. Participants will learn about the Department’s risk management policy as detailed in DM1X, Appendix AG. This interactive course includes a case study and has a computer-based component using the Microsoft Excel Risk Management template (Risk Template). Participants will get hands on training in using the Risk Template, which is designed to help tabulate, assess, track, and respond to risks and opportunities in construction projects.

Learning Outcomes:
• Identify benefits of the risk management process
• Understand PennDOT’ s risk management process
• Utilize and apply the PennDOT tool for risk management within current project management process
• Understand how to document, interpret, and apply the levels of risk management (based on project complexity)
• Understand roles/responsibilities of risk manager and risk owner
• Describe when and where to integrate the risk management process into project development
• Utilize the risk register as a project communication platform
