General Information

Summary:
The course will consist of proven bridge preservation and repair procedures including step-by-step instructions for making durable repairs and applying cost-effective preservation systems. Topics addressed in the class will include all components of a structure (superstructure, substructure, and approach) and overall work management topics such as safety and planning work. The procedures presented should be able to be performed by a typical state Department maintenance crew. The training will also include an end-of-class knowledge assessment.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon complettion students will learn:
Bridge preservation and repair procedures
How to apply cost-effective preservation system, including components of a structure.
Overall work management
Safety & Planning Work

Teaching Method:
Classroom instruction will be followed by an end-of-class knowledge assessment.

Prerequisites:
None

Target Audience:
Bridge Maintenance Personnel including, but not limited to, District Bridge Maintenance Coordinators, Assistant Maintenance Engineers and County Maintenance Managers

Special Materials:
Course presentation material will consist of a PowerPoint presentation already developed by Ron Purvis PLLC. Ron Purvis PLLC will also provide PennDot a CD of an existing 500 page Bridge Maintenance Manual which will be printed and made available to each course participant at PennDot’s discretion.
