General Information

Summary:
This course demonstrates how to conduct basic engineering and traffic studies for the purpose of ascertaining the need, or lack of need, of specific traffic restrictions and the application of traffic control devices on state-designated highways. It reviews applicable laws, regulations, and required study procedures for establishing, revising and removing traffic restrictions as presented in PennDOT Publication 212, Official Traffic Control Devices, and FHWA’s MUTCD.

Learning Outcomes:
Objectives for this course include:
• Understanding the basic ideas and guidelines for conducting engineering and traffic studies in Pennsylvania.
• Understanding how to use regulatory manuals to conduct basic engineering and traffic studies.
• Promoting consistent application of engineering and traffic studies in Pennsylvania through practice exercises and forms.

Prerequisites:
Currently performing engineering and traffic studies within the Districts. Each attendee is asked to bring a copy of Publication 212 and the MUTCD.
