General Information

Summary:
This course is a brief introduction to legally mandated consultation with Federally Recognized Native American Tribes for transportation projects in Pennsylvania. The course is designed for project managers, portfolio managers, bridge engineers, or any Department staff who may have projects or assignments that are affected by historic preservation laws or regulations.

Learning Outcomes:
Learning outcomes include:
-Familiarization with the regulatory requirements for tribal consultation.
-An understanding of the respective roles of the FHWA, the Department, and the Tribes in Tribal consultation.
-An introduction to the Department’s procedures for fulfilling the requirements of tribal consultation.
-An understanding of how the consultation process can affect the delivery of transportation projects.
-Familiarization with sources of support and technical assistance with the tribal consultation process.
