General Information

Summary:
PennDOT employs the RWIS and AVL networks as instruments for measuring road weather data and operational data in winter maintenance. Users are able to gather real time and past information on atmospheric weather at RWIS locations and operational data from truck locations and spreader controllers. By combining these two systems, users can measure performance based on the type of weather and how PennDOT operations were carried out.

Learning Outcomes:
Users should be familiar with the user-interfaces for both systems and how to interpret, gather and analyze the data they provide.
