Summary:
This two-day course presents details on when and how to perform a load analysis on highway bridges to conform to Department requirements and to ensure safe load posting.
It also introduces the new BMS2 item numbers and instructs the participants where to go to obtain information required to perform a rating analysis.
*This course does not teach participants to use PennDOT's load rating software.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, an attendee will be able to:
-Identify field conditions that reflect the progressive decline in bridge serviceability over time;
-Decide when an analysis or an analysis update should be performed; and
-Apply the Department load analysis process for safe load posting.

Prerequisites:
Attendees should have a BSCE degree and a working knowledge of the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications or the AASHTO Standard Specifications for Highway Bridges as well as the AASHTO Manual for Condition Evaluation of Bridges. Attendees should also have design or rating experience on at least one superstructure using the above specifications and BAR7 or PS3.
