General Information

Summary:	This course is designed to benefit new Transportation Construction Inspectors (TCIs), and inspection personnel waiting for NECEPT training. It is intended to provide participants with an understanding of the following: • Field bituminous paving operations. • Critical observations to be performed on paving operations. • Sampling procedures for bituminous materials. • Documentation related to bituminous field operations
Learning Outcomes:	The overall course outcomes are to ensure that inspectors can: • Explain their daily responsibilities on-site. • Identify, locate, and use appropriate references, resources, and source documents. • Identify safety concerns and implement corrective action. • Identify the paperwork required to have during paving operations and how to correctly complete it. • Describe job mix formula and explain how the contract requirements determine it. • Explain proper surface preparation. • Identify the proper application rate of tack coat. • Discuss the impact of weather on paving operations. • Recognize segregation and its causes. • Explain the reason for compaction. • Describe sources of supply and follow procedures regarding sources of supply. • Explain lots and sublots. • Describe mixture acceptance samples and core samples. • Accurately complete required forms. • Recognize what must be documents on a PSA. • Define and determine how to calculate yield. • Define and determine how to calculate payment adjustments
