General Information

Summary:
This workshop is based on Chapters 18 and 19 of the Highway Safety Manual. The chapters contain information and models designed to compute predicted crash levels for various design options for freeway segments, ramps, and ramp terminals. The workshop will be two days in length including lecture and group exercises utilizing IHSDM software to analyze a section of freeway in Pennsylvania.

Learning Outcomes:
1. Describe how a freeway/interchange safety analysis should support decision making on project design choices.
2. List examples of how the Highway Safety Manual chapters on freeways and interchanges could be applied in project decision making.
3. Apply the Highway Safety Manual predictive methodology for freeways and interchanges.
4. Apply the Enhanced Interchange Safety Analysis Tool (ISATe) for assessing safety on freeways and interchanges.
5. Apply the Interactive Highway Safety Desing Model (IHSDM) tool for assessing safety on freeways and interchanges.
