General Information
Summary:
This one-day workshop includes interactive modules on highway user information needs and expectations, information processing, and decision making. The relationship between specific highway design practices and human factors principles is explored. Human capabilities and behaviors are discussed and demonstrated. Group exercises using real-world case studies are included to allow participants to apply the knowledge they have gained.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
• Understand common road user characteristics (“human factors”)
• Recognize how these human factors affect safety and operational performance of roads
• Apply practical tools & techniques to better adapt road design to user abilities

PennDOT employees and business partners who are traffic engineers, highway designers, and traffic safety specialists.
