General Information

Summary:
PennDOT’s Bulletin 15 Approved Construction Materials is a listing of prequalified engineering material sources, and specific materials, that are eligible for use on both state and local construction projects. Bulletin 15 is a valuable resource for Contractors, Consultants, Department staff, and others who are involved in the design and construction of state and local transportation projects.
How do manufacturers get their engineering materials/products listed in Bulletin 15? What is the Department’s evaluation process? How are the new materials/technologies considered for approval if they do not fit an existing specification or if no specification exists?
The Webinar will provide insight into the PennDOT’s process for evaluating the new materials/products for potential inclusion into Bulletin 15. The Webinar will also explore several interesting new product evaluations currently underway by the New Products and Innovations Section (NPI). These actual evaluation examples will be used to explain the technical decisions and challenges that enter into a new product evaluation, including the engineering sampling, testing and quality control requirements.
The Webinar will also explain how Districts and other Department organizations can better partner with NPI in the evaluation of needed new materials and products.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this Course, the attendee will be able to:
1. Present the Department’s new product evaluation process.
2. Provide the technical decisions and challenges that enter into a proper evaluation including the engineering requirements (sampling, testing, quality control, etc.).
3. Identify NPI’s current or proposed new engineering product evaluations.
4. Discuss partnering with NPI on future needed material/product evaluations.

Target Audience:
All professional licensees in PennDOT and anyone interested in learning about New Engineering Products Process.

Final Exam:
