General Information

Summary:
• To identify the causes of early-age deck cracking in concrete bridge decks
• To provide recommendations for effective prevention of early-age deck cracking
• To assess the effects of cracks on durability and performance of bridge decks
• To identify the most cost-effective remediation practices and optimum time to remediate

Learning Outcomes:
• Understand the primary causes of deck cracking such as shrinkage, and how to reduce/minimize shrinkage.
• Learn how to use the Deck Performance Database whereby the deck cracking metric is used to track deck cracking and determine what methods are successful in reducing cracking
• Learn how to perform a Life-Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) to determine the most cost-effective methods of remediation.
