General Information

Summary:
Provides a history of Outdoor Advertising legislation and regulations and reviews Federal and State laws to help participants in developing enforcement procedures and understanding the need to comply with FHWA regulations in preserving the Commonwealth’s entitlement to Federal highway funding. Users will gain applied knowledge in the process of maintaining effective control and enforcement of outdoor advertising devices through examples, case studies and review of court cases.

Learning Outcomes:
You will be able to:
- Describe the background of Outdoor Advertising legislations and regulations.
- Develop enforcement procedures according to Federal and State laws.
- Comply with FHWA regulations.
- Apply the process of maintaining and enforcing Outdoor Advertising devices.
- Provide effective control of signs within 660' of ROW and beyond.
- Identify state designated Scenic Byways and laws that govern them.
- Understand different classifications of zoning and the effect on approval of outdoor advertising device applications.
- Identify non-compliance issues with permitted signs.
