<p>1.&nbsp; Students need to bring notepad and pencil to class.<br /><br />2.&nbsp; Need to provide the Application for Asbestos Occupation Certification in the instructor packet.&nbsp; It can be pulled from the S:\BLASO\TTDS\Class Information\Asbestos Building Inspector - Refresher</p>
<br />3.&nbsp; Need a copy of the students certificates of completion and original applications.&nbsp; Applications and certs of completion are to be taken to L &amp;I for processing, 16th floor room 1623.<br /><br />4.&nbsp; Must be re-certified every year.&nbsp; If certification lapses after the 1 year period, student must take the 3-day training to become re-certified.&nbsp; Example, employee attended and passed training 03/12, the employee would need to take the Refresher training no later than 03/14.&nbsp; Send an e-mail to participates that attended the year before, reminding them of the re-certification requirements.<br /><br />5.&nbsp; Instructor supplies course materials, tests, test results and certs of completion.&nbsp; PennDOT is responsible for duplicate the PP presentation.<br /><br />6.&nbsp; Reminder in T.C.:&nbsp; 60 days prior - Check previous attendees of the Asbestos Building Inspection- Initial Certification and Refresher class offerings.&nbsp; They must take a refresher class each year to retain their certification.&nbsp;<br /><br /><strong>8.&nbsp; Need to reminder instructor to have participants complete the applications in full and sign them.&nbsp; He should be checking the applications before forwarding to PennDOT for processing.</strong>

General Information

Summary:
Four-hour training seminar qualifying candidates for recertification by PA Department of Labor and Industry (in conformance with ASHARA, 40 CFR 763) for persons who work in the asbestos abatement trades who as inspectors of buildings and other structures (most specifically bridges).
This training is required for those who are licensed Asbestos Building Inspectors holding current licensure and those who have been licensed but whose license has been lapsed for less than 365 days.
The course enables the inspector to determine 1) if asbestos is present, 2) what manner and condition of asbestos exists, and 3) proper techniques and sampling protocols for obtaining and preparing samples for submission to qualified laboratories for examination.
Those who pass the course will be eligible to apply to PA Dept. of Labor and Industry for renewal of licensure.

Learning Outcomes:
This course reviews basic information on asbestos provided during the initial licensure training.
Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
- identify and understand types of asbestos found in nature and used in industry; how it is incorporated into building materials; where it is likely to be found; how it should be safely sampled and handled for testing purposes; tools used for sampling and preservation; and chain-of-custody
- apply laws and regulations regarding asbestos mitigation in building and structural inspections related to asbestos abatement;
- understand the inspector’s role in the asbestos building trades.
- apply for and receive licensing renewal as Asbestos Building Inspector through the PA Dept. of Labor and Industry
- perform asbestos inspections of buildings, bridges, and other structures
- sample asbestos-containing material and preparing samples to be sent to an approved laboratory for analysis

Target Audience:
This class is for persons who perform environmental work, design, or rehabilitation of bridge superstructures and have been licensed as an asbestos building inspector and whose licensure has not been expired for more than one year.

Special Materials:
Participants need to bring: Notepad and pencils.
(Note: Instructors will provide: Course Manual; encapsulated or otherwise rendered safe asbestos samples.)
