Summary: | The Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) 1910.120(e)(3)(ii) states: Workers on site only occasionally for a specific limited task (such as, but not limited to, ground water monitoring, land surveying, or geophysical surveying, etc.) and who are unlikely to be exposed over permissible exposure limits and published exposure limits shall receive a minimum of 24 hours of instruction off the site, and the minimum of one day actual field experience under the direct supervision of a trained, experienced supervisor. This applies to any employees who are exposed or potentially exposed to hazardous substances -- including hazardous waste -- and who are engaged in one of the following operations •Clean-up operations •Corrective actions involving clean-up operations •Voluntary clean-up operations •Emergency response operations

Learning Outcomes: | Following this course the participants will be able to: •Identify the names of personnel and alternates responsible for site safety and health; •Identify safety, health and other hazards present on the site; •Don and the use of personal protective equipment; •Identify work practices by which the employee can minimize risks from hazards; •Understand the safe use of engineering controls and equipment on the site; •Know the medical surveillance requirements including at hazardous waste sites and recognition of symptoms and signs which might indicate over exposure to hazards; and •Identify the contents of the site safety and health plan.

Target Audience: | All Department personnel who 1) Are onsite at one or more hazardous waste sites for 30 days or more a year. [Note: On-site for 1 hr or more constitutes- one day.], 2) Dons a respirator, or 3) Is exposed to hazardous substances above the OSHA PEL.
