General Information

Summary:
Compliance to environmental regulations and requirements starts in preliminary engineering and extends through post-construction activities. This course introduces the design staff to processes and tools that are used to verify and document environmental commitments, and to ensure that the commitments are incorporated into highway design plans. Also included is a brief discussion of Design Build contracting and the unique permitting processes and responsibilities associated with this method.

Learning Outcomes:
• Understand the overall environmental processes that are incorporated into the PennDOT Project Development Process, from initial planning activities to post-construction activities.
• Understand how regulatory programs that generate environmental and permit conditions are incorporated into the PennDOT design process.
• To learn how to use the new ECMTS document during the Design Phase of project development.
