General Information

Summary:
This 13- (over 14 days) of classroom and field exercises is composed of a variety of technical skills and Human Resources (HR) administrative training elements. This program is designed to enhance the knowledge and technical proficiency of the highway foreman. It will provide the skills needed to supervise productive work crews. This is not intended to be technical hands on SAP Plant Maintenance training.
Hotel accommodations will be coordinated by Central Offices Highway Admin Training Travel Coordinator.

* Describe the advantages of increased productivity
* Identify their new supervisory responsibilities
* Develop conflict handling, communication and coaching skills to improve employee’s performance
* Describe TWOC, SEAP, SPF and leave usage policies to employees
* Describe your role in the performance management process
* Explain your role in labor relations and equal employment
* Illustrate the advantages of promoting PennDOT’s safety culture
* Describe the ePayroll process and the importance of complete and accurate daily payrolls

Teaching Method:
Classroom plus field trips

Target Audience:
This training is mandatory for all newly appointed Highway Foreman during their six-month probationary period. Incumbent Highway Foreman 2, Highway Foreman 3 and TEOS are welcome if space is available.
This training is not intended for Civil Engineer Trainees (CETs).
Each District Office is limited to two people, Highway Foreman first priority and second being those TEOS (not mandatory for TEOs) classification. Participants must be dual enrolled in PennDOT Foreman Training Academy (78BOMO460028) and PennDOT Leadership Academy for Supervisors (PLAS) for Foreman (78BHR3200220).

Special Materials:
Participants shall bring a calculator, hard hat, work boots, safety vest, raingear, etc.
Note that a test is administered at the end of week 1 and week 2. An overall 70% score for weeks 1 and 2 must be achieved to pass the course. If the final, two-week average is below 70%, the participant may retest within six weeks of the last day of the program.
