General Information
Summary:
The goal of the Pavement ME (Computer) course is to initiate the training of pavement designers on the use of the ME Design software for new and rehabilitated pavement design. This is considered a beginners course. The course overviews the inputs and identifies where those inputs can be obtained for typical as well as specialized design strategies. The course focus is on the use of the inputs described in AASHTO’s Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide, Interim Edition: A Manual of Practice.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Learn how to utilize the Pavement ME Design software for design and analysis
a. Identify the key inputs and outputs.
b. Determine how to determine the inputs and where those inputs can be found.
c. Understand how to interpret and utilize outputs.
2. Execute typical design strategies used by PennDOT for both new and rehabilitated pavement design.
a. New asphalt concrete designs strategies.
b. New PCC design strategies
c. Rehabilitation design strategies for asphalt concrete pavements.
d. Rehabilitation design strategies for PCC pavements.
Teaching Method:
Lecture and demonstration through software use/ Instructor Led.
Prerequisites:
Pavement ME - Theory.
Target Audience:
Engineers that are involved in pavement design and in collecting the data in support of that design (asphalt concrete, PCC, unbound materials and soils, traffic, etc.) for new and rehabilitated asphalt concrete and PCC pavements.
