General Information

Summary:
This course will provide guidance on when and where it is appropriate to use micropiles, and educate the state of the practice in design and construction of micropiles. It will cover stepwise procedures for the design of micropiles and for structural support and for slope stability applications. Construction, inspection and integrity-testing aspects and issues. It will also include exercises that will walk through the technical and cost feasiblity aspects of structural support and slope stability design with micropiles.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
* Identify potential micropile applications
* Explain construction constraints, techniques and performance
* Assess feasibility of micropiles for a given application
* Prepare conceptual and basic designs, and evaluate contractor-submmitted designs
* Select appropriate specification/contracting method(s) and prepare contract documents
* Describe construction monitoring and inspection requirements

Target Audience:
Geotechnical specialists, foundation engineers, bridge engineers, and foundation construction engineers involved with the design and construction of foundations.
