General Information

Summary:
The PennDOT Internet based Traffic Monitoring System (iTMS) provides traffic volume data for the Interstates, State Routes and others. The traffic volume data is important to the planning and development of engineering projects. The iTMS provides traffic data in a map-based visual at county, municipality, route, intersection and other levels. The uses of iTMS may be for providing visual volume information for safety studies, line painting requirements, determining Road User's Liquidated Damages for detour information, bridge sufficiency ratings, etc.
This Webinar will provide information on the iTMS, RMS Traffic components, updating cycles of the traffic counts information, and others to enable the engineers and designers to determine the uses of iTMS in the designs. The requirements regarding the State's traffic monitoring and reporting to the FHWA will be discussed. Additionally, the locations of the traffic permanent sites will be discussed for maintenance purposes.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this Course, the attendee will be able to:
1. Present the iTMS traffic volume information, visually, at the following levels: county, route, intersection, etc. and determine its uses.
2. Discuss the guidelines for collecting traffic information required by the FHWA.
3. Identify locations of the permanent sites to ascertain which routes are obtaining constant updates of traffic volumes for designing, and for maintenance purposes.
4. Provide the several layers of the QA process for the traffic volume data collected.

Target Audience:
All professional licensees in PennDOT and anyone interested in learning about the topic.

Final Exam:
No
