General Information
Summary:
3D model-centic process implementation for bridges is gaining momentum across the country. This course presents the advanced processes for Bentley's OpenBridge Designer (OBD) software in support of the Department's Digital Delivery Directive 2025. As an extension to the OBD introductory course, advanced modeling techniques used to increase the level of detail to the level required for final design will be covered in this 2-day, hands-on course. The content focuses on modeling procedure to generate typical details for PennDOT structures including decks, barriers, beams, integral abutments, and piers. Workflows for modeling steel reinforcement are addressed in this course. The instruction utilizes the actual Bentley software and PennDOT workspace, so the attendees are expected to have the necessary items installed in advance of the training start date.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Understand advanced modeling techniques for the OpenBridge Designer software suite, why they are needed, and how to apply them in a model-centric workflow.
2. Increase the level of detail of OpenBridge Modeler generated elements through variables and parametric relationships to follow PennDOT standards and specifications.
3. Introduce additional solids modeling tools to create new elements and modify existing elements to increase the level of detail.
4. Establish multiple workflows for modeling steel reinforcement with tools available in OpenBridge Modeler.
Target Audience:
Target audience is experienced designers/technicians with a moderate level of experience in MicroStation. The course is designed for those who will be hands-on in the modeling process.
It is highly recommended that the attendees have prior 3D modeling experience AND take OpenBridge Designer - Introduction course.
Special Materials:
Electronic training materials will be distributed prior to the training. Attendees will use their own computers during the training and interact with the trainers and classmates through a virtual platform. Instructions regarding software and workspace versions/downloads will be provided when registration is confirmed. Note that OBD is a commercially available software and licenses must be obtained for use; no training licenses will be provided for this course.

Awarding continuing education credits (PDH/CEU/CEH) to a training course or other training event does not imply or guarantee that the training course/event is approved by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Land Surveyors.
According to Pennsylvania Act 25, “Credit determination for activities…shall be the responsibility of the licensee. Continuing professional competency obtained by a licensee should maintain, improve or expand skills or knowledge obtained prior to initial licensure, including law and ethics applicable to the profession, or develop new and relevant skills and knowledge.”
For informational purposes only:
1 CEU is equal to 10 hours of instruction
1 CEH is equal to 1 hour of instruction
