General Information
Summary:
This workshop is an introduction to and an overview of PennDOT's Bridge Automated Design and Drafting (BRADD) software presented by a review and discussion of the following topics:
* Purpose
* Functions and Features
* Input Selection and Menu Entry
* Performing a Design and Reviewing the Output
* Design Drawing Generation
* Available Documentation
* On-Line Help
* Available Websites and Electronic Mailings
The workshop is divided into ten sections with a hands-on exercise for each section. The sections and exercises build upon one another providing an opportunity to input data and eventually complete a bridge design using BRADD.
An open free-form question and answer session is provided at the end of the workshop to allow the users to ask any questions not addressed in the workshop or to seek help with any existing bridge projects that are using BRADD.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this workshop, you will be able to:
* Identify required inputs for the BRADD software
* Locate in the BRADD User Manual the description of the methods of solution used by the BRADD software, including assumptions and limitations
* Locate and review output from the BRADD software
* Locate in the BRADD User Manual the description of the error and warning messages to help resolve BRADD software error and warning messages

Teaching Method:
Classroom style using laptop computers.
Prerequisites:
Experience in the design and drafting of one or more of the following bridge elements: P/S Beams, Steel Girders, Elastomeric Bearing Pads and Reinforced Concrete Abutment and Wing Walls. Experience in the use of one or more the PennDOT LRFD Programs used to design these bridge elements is recommended but not required.
Target Audience:
Both PennDOT and consultants who are experienced bridge engineers, designers, and drafters.
