General Information

Summary:
- This course will introduce fundamental tools, concepts, and terms necessary to begin using the OpenRoads Designer CADD software.
- Using OpenRoads Designer along with PennDOT's RMS (Roadway Management System) data, straight-line diagram plan-sets can be created.
- By completion of this training, you will have the skills and knowledge to create straight-line diagrams, as they are needed.

Learning Outcomes:
- Learn basic and advanced drafting techniques used to design a straight-line diagram/drawing.
- Understand PennDOT's standards and reference materials.
- Execute completed straight-line drawings based upon required resources.
1) Students will need to use an approved computing device. The CADD ZBook 15 model is preferred, however the HP EliteBook 840 is acceptable as an alternative. → NO Tablet-style HP models (x2 or x360) or Apple iPads!
2) Students will be required to have OpenRoads Designer 2022 R3 (10.12.02.4) and ProjectWise Explorer (10.00.03.453) software installed onto their computer before the start of class.
3) Students will need to have CADD Permissions established before the start of class. (Open an IT ticket for the PD-CADD support team for assistance)
4) Students will need to have prior experience using Microsoft Teams to attend and participate in virtual meetings and classes.
5) Students should be able to read plan-sets, straight-line diagrams, and understand introductory CADD techniques.
6) Students should be able to interpret data from PennDOT RMS (Roadway Management System) in order to complete the straight-line diagram.
