Summary: | This is one of two courses required by Section 620 of PUB 408. SEE IMPORTANT INFORMATION under "TEACHING METHOD" below. The overall course goal is to make construction/maintenance engineers, inspectors, and contractors/installers sensitive to accurate installation and consequences of decisions made during field inspection. The course addresses the need for guide rail/end treatment systems layout parameters that ensure an optimal barrier installation. The focus will be on installation of MASH products. The successful completion of the course is required for both inspection and installation. This is one of two courses required by Section 620 of PUB 408. The other course is Guide Rail Installation, Inspection, and Maintenance.

Learning Outcomes: | Upon completion of the course participants should be able to - Have a better understanding of various roadside safety proprietary products and how they perform. - Have a better understanding of manufacturer’s installation recommendations. - Determine what and how to inspect various safety devices during field installation.

Teaching Method: | Self-paced web-based learning environment. Each class will be available for approximately 20 consecutive days where participant may access proprietary guide rail training videos, for study, review and replay. After each presentation, participant will have access to an exam of the information presented. Once the exam begins, participant will have a specified time limit to complete the exam. This course should take about 20 to 25 total hours to complete.

Target Audience: | This course is directed to PennDOT personnel and Consultants having direct responsibilities for inspection of roadside safety devises such as: traffic barriers (including transitions to other systems), end terminals and crash cushions. Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP), Maintenance personnel Consultant/Contractor Installers .

Special Materials: | Registration requires the learner’s unique email address as course material access and testing is specific to the registered learner. After completion of the course, the learner will be sent a certificate of completion for each product they studied and received a passing test score. Once the exam begins, participant will have a specified time limit to complete the exam. Complete instructions will be sent 3 to 5 days prior to the start date of each class.
