General Information

Summary:
On June 14, 2012, President Barack Obama signed an Executive Order to facilitate the deployment of broadband on Federal lands, buildings, rights of way, federally-assisted highways and tribal lands. This Executive Order created an interagency working group composed of federal agencies involved in decisions related to access to Federal property and highway rights of way (ROW) with a goal to reduce barriers to the expansion of broadband services in underserved communities. In response to the Executive Order, FHWA Administrator Victor Mendez sent letters to each State DOT Chief Executive Officer as well as a memorandum to FHWA Division Offices intended to encourage broadband deployment on highway rights of way

Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this Course, the attendee will:
be aware of the broadband deployment opportunity awareness of staff in State DOTs, LPAs, consultant community, FHWA and other key stakeholders. FHWA Division Offices should invite their State DOT, LPAs and others responsible for assisting with broadband deployment within their State.
