General Information

Summary:	This webinar will guide the participant through the basic processes used for specifying, constructing, and inspecting alternate types of storm or culvert pipes. The alternate pipe selection criteria dictates what storm or culvert pipes are to be installed with a 25-, 50-, or 100-year "design life" based on the type of use and the location. Recently issued policy changes via PennDOT Strike-Off Letters will be discussed. Design guidance will be reviewed for alternate pipe selection criteria found in Publication 13M, Design Manual Part 2, Highway Design and in the ECMS Master Items. Discussion topics will also include various group types for thermoplastic pipes, key inspection issues, and sample justification for specifying less than two alternates.
Learning Outcomes:	Upon successful completion of this course, the attendee will be able to: 1. Explain the Department's recently issued policy changes for provisional pipe approvals, design specifications, and requirements for pipe inspection and for fill and cover requirements. 2. Present the Department's guidance/criteria for alternate pipe selection. 3. Identify key inspection issues related to pipe installations.
