1.&nbsp; Verify the most recent copy of Pub 442 and Pub 93 and download to the ftp site for Dering Consulting.<br />Dering will incorporate what pages needed of Pub 93 into the student manuals and take copies of Pub 442 to class for reference.<br />

<p>&nbsp;For example addressed the reasons behind the move toward more negotiations being carried out in the districts, and he added the &quot;color&quot; to many of the principles and procedures covered. In other words, I would typically do &quot;the teach&quot; on the factual matters such as what was expected from the negotiator or project manager, and would bring the lesson to life with examples of actual negotiations or direct dealings with consultants. He also covered some of the policy matters, such as the implications of the Brooks act on consultant selection, and so on.</p>
<p>&nbsp;I would recommend we work with CAS to determine who will bring this Department perspective to the training, and I can meet with the person(s) to go over the role in some detail. Knowing Chris's commitment to the courses, I would think he would be willing to help with some guidance or consultation, too, but he does have a tendency to get very busy, so he might need some lead time.</p>

General Information

Summary:
The purpose of this training course is to teach techniques and processes for successfully managing each project as well as the combined workload of projects assigned. Using Department’s policies, procedures, and expectations as the foundation, this course will teach you not only “what” to do, but “how” and “why” to do it. Beginning from the point that the contract is executed and “Notice to Proceed” is given to the consultant, topics addressed in this course included:
1. Effectively managing the client/consultant relationship
2. Setting the stage for success at the beginning of the project
3. Monitoring the project’s progress, costs and consultant performance
4. Reviewing and approving requests for contract supplements
5. Closing out a completed project

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course the participants will be able to:
1. Define the roles and responsibilities of a PennDOT design project manager from the beginning to the end of the project.
2. Define techniques for establishing and maintaining a win/win relationship between PennDOT and the consultants selected for a project.
3. Explain uses and impacts of different contract types and payment methods
4. Conduct a project kickoff meeting.
5. Monitor project activities and advance the project toward completion.
6. Track the project’s budget and spending to ensure appropriate progress is being made.
7. Evaluate requests for contract supplements and complete process to execute a supplement.
8. Evaluate and control quality of services and products delivered by consultant.
9. Assess and report on the consultant’s performance.
10. Complete steps to close out the project.

Project Managers responsible for ensuring that consultants deliver quality services and products on time and within budget constraints.
