General Information

Summary:
PennDOT annually pays out several million dollars due to tort liability claims. The amount of payout has been decreasing due to risk management. PennDOT’s Risk Management Program was developed to reduce the Department’s exposure to tort liability by implementing Statewide Risk Management Programs and Policies that provide the traveling public with the safest possible highway system within PennDOT’s abilities. This webinar will provide the participant with an understanding of tort liability and PennDOT’s Risk Management process. Specific target areas to avoid tort liability will also be discussed. The future of managing risk through the Risk Management Strategic Plan will be presented.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the attendee will be able to:
• Explain the definition of tort liability and Risk Management.
• Present PennDOT’s Risk Management Philosophy.
• Identify target areas to avoid Tort Liability.
• Discuss the future initiatives in the Risk Management Strategic Plan.
