General Information

Summary:	This course provides an overview of the Threatened and Endangered Species Desk Reference (PennDOT Publication 546) document and provides guidance on key regulatory and agency coordination related to obtaining endangered species clearance in the Transportation Project Development Process. Topics include: * Sections 9 and 7 of the Endangered Species Act (ESA) * the necessary steps for effective agency coordination for state and federal listed species * the contents of a Biological Assessment * an identification of the relationships between the ESA, the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and 404/105 Permitting * the necessary activities for Final Design and Construction when endangered species are present in the project area.
Learning Outcomes:	Following this course the participants will be able to: * identify regulations pertaining to Threatened & Endangered (T&E) species * describe T&E coordination procedures for ESA formal, and informal, consultations * describe state agency T&E coordination procedures * describe procedures for non-T&E species.
Teaching Method:	The course will be an instructor-led class that will include some case studies, panel discussions, and questions and answer sessions.
Target Audience:	The primary target audience includes Environmental Managers, Assistant Environmental Managers, and Maintenance Environmental Staff. Project Managers may also benefit.
