General Information

Summary:
This course covers Side Dozing and Shoulder Cutting Operations. It provides an understanding of the importance of maintaining proper drainage along the guiderail and shoulder portion of the roadway in order to preserve and extend the life of
our state highways.
Operational procedures are discussed in-depth for safe and efficient side dozing and shoulder cutting operations. Both
activities are planned in conjunction with each other. All applicable PennDOT Standards and specifications will be discussed

Learning Outcomes:
List the reference documents and safety requirements to review prior to side dozing and/or shoulder cutting operations
- Discuss operating procedures of each activity
- Planning and scheduling process
- Determine if proper slope is met
- Identify proper erosion and sedimentation procedures
- understand how to complete the M-666 Authorization to enter form
- Discuss environmental issues and concerns

Target Audience:
Highway Maintenance foreman, Assistant County Maintenance Manager, Crew members associated with the operation
