General Information

Summary:
This course is intended for a varied audience of design and construction staff who are involved in the design, construction, and inspection of ADA accessibility features with an emphasis on curb ramps.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, an attendee will be able to:
- implement the basic pedestrian accessibility requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 and related PennDOT policy;
- identify non-compliant curb ramps and determine if newly constructed are ADA compliant;
- utilize the Technically Infeasible Form (TIF) and the Curb Ramp Inspection Form (CS-4401);
- apply engineering judgment to design ADA compliant accessibility features for new construction and alteration projects using RC-67M and DM2 Chapter 6 criteria; and
- access design guideline information from PennDOT, FHWA, and U.S.
Access Board sources.

Teaching Method:
This course is offered in two formats:
* a half-day instructor-led class in a designated classroom site, OR
* the independent self study option, in the PennDOT Technical Training Calendar under "Independent Study".

Target Audience:
District Project Managers and Designers.
This course is intended for new employees and business partners who have not taken the course. Employees and business partners are welcome to take the course as a refresher.
As option for a refresher is the independent self study format.
