General Information

Summary:
The primary purpose of CPM Schedule Monitoring is to build upon the basic lessons learned in the previous two CPM courses by emphasizing the benefits of diligent review and analysis of the monitoring chart. Participants will analyze the need for schedule monitoring by examining the process of building and updating the monitoring chart from the beginning to the end of the construction process.
Participants will develop insight into their roles in pre-bid schedules and will then review the basic components and requirements of a schedule submission.
The bulk of the class focuses on effective use of the monitoring chart. They will review the functions and components of a chart and then learn how to update a chart to reflect construction progress. The necessary elements of--and documentation for--a Progress Update Meeting will be discussed.

Learning Outcomes:
At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to:
* Define a constructability schedule and its purpose.
* State two reasons that the development team for the constructability schedule should include various PennDOT departments and interested third-party agencies.
* Successfully review a schedule to determine if it is acceptable in accordance with the specifications in a given contract.
* Correctly update and document progress on a monitoring chart.
* Identify production or start delays and gains.
* Determine how construction activity delays can impact milestone and completion dates.
* Identify three proactive responses to a scheduling issue that can help prevent that issue from developing into a claim.
* Correctly address the time components of a work authorization.
* State the basic components of a letter that indicates that a contractor's schedule is acceptable.
* State the basic components of a letter that indicates that a contractor's schedule is unacceptable.
* Identify the PennDOT resources best suited to assisting Inspectors with each of the following areas of concern:
* Working with and analyzing schedules.
* Legal questions.
Satisfactory completion of the objectives will be assessed with-in class exercises and a Level II evaluation instrument.

Target Audience:
This training course was identified as part of the Position Analysis Workbook (PAW) training for Assistant Construction Engineers and Inspector-in-Charge positions; other field personnel and construction partners are invited to attend the training as well.

Final Exam:
Yes
