General Information

Summary:	Geotechnical Aspects of Construction for Inspectors is designed to provide Inspectors-In-Charge and Transportation Construction Inspectors with an overview of geotechnical issues related to bridge and highway construction. Emphasis is placed on recognizing geotechnical issues in the field before they negatively impact construction.
Learning Outcomes:	The overall course outcomes are to ensure that inspectors can: • Describe the significance of various geotechnical situations. • Determine what tests should be run and why. Understand the testing parameters. Understand the test results. • Interpret soil classifications. • Field ID soil types. • Describe the significance and impact of various soil types. Know the potential environmental impacts. • Identify rock types. • Evaluate the significance and impact of various types of rock on construction. • Review a geotechnical report and make a basic evaluation. • Review boring & testing data and make a basic evaluation. • Recognize a geotechnical problem, describe what to do about it, and identify who to contact.
