Summary: | This training is offered to Assistant Highway Maintenance Managers (AHMM) throughout the Commonwealth by PennDOT staff. A wide variety of topics are discussed, including, but not limited to, the role of the AHMM, media relations, winter maintenance, labor relations, budget and planning, risk management, drainage issues and bridge maintenance. This is not intended to be technical hands on SAP Plant Maintenance training. Hotel accommodations will be coordinated by Central Offices Highway Admin Training Travel Coordinator.

Learning Outcomes: | At the end of this academy you will be able to: • Describe Publication 113 (Highway Foreman Manual) and Publication 23(Maintenance Manual) • Illustrate the advantages of using performance metrics • Describe the process of dealing with the media • Illustrate the advantages of promoting PennDOT policies • Describe the benefits of maintenance planning and the ePayroll process • Apply pavement preservation practices • Describe the benefits of using correct labor relations practices

Teaching Method: | Classroom based

Target Audience: | Primary audience is newly appointed Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager, Assistant County Maintenance Manager; or Senior Civil Engineer Supervisor those who hold one of these titles working in a county maintenance office overseeing a highway maintenance crew. Roadway Programs Coordinators (RPCs) / Business Manager are welcome to attend, if space is available. This training is not intended for Civil Engineer Trainees (CETs). Each District Office is limited to two people.

Special Materials: | Participants are asked to bring work shoes, hard hat, safety vest, rain gear, etc. each week should an outside field visit occur as part of the program.
