Summary: | An earthquake occurred on August 23, 2011 registering a magnitude of 5.9. This earthquake was the largest reported earthquake in the mid-Atlantic region. Pennsylvania felt the earthquake, with the epicenter located in Virginia . This Webinar will present an overview of seismicity of earthquakes, along with the theory of why earthquakes occur. Seismic events in the eastern US will be discussed, with information provided specific to Pennsylvania. Seismic hazards, zonation and potential for damage to roads and bridges will also be presented. PennDOT seismic event follow-up assessment and inspection requirements for bridges, including areas of concentration, will be provided. Additionally, post-inspection reporting requirements will be discussed.
