Prior to registering for the course complete the following steps:
<p>1. Create an ISA account online at https://www.isa-arbor.com/myAccount/createAccount.aspx.</p>
<p>2. Submit an application through ISA My Profile at https://www.isa-arbor.com/myAccount/login.aspx.</p>
<p>- The application requires proof of eligibility, such as three years full time experience in arboriculture or combination of educational and practical experience as outlined on page 3 of the following document at http://www.isa-arbor.com/certification/resources/cert_Application_CertifiedArborist.pdf.</p>
<p>- Leave the test date blank until the department tells ISA the exam date.</p>
<p>3. Email the roadside manager your eligibility to take the exam at jodemko@pa.gov.</p>
<p>- ISA will let you know within 5-10 business days on whether you can take the exam.</p>

General Information

Summary:
Basic fundamentals are covered on tree biology, tree diseases and insects, tree health and damage, tree risk management and other tree related items. The course reviews subjects on the certified arborist exam given on the last day to personnel who obtain pre-approved to take the exam prior to attending the course. A combination of work experience and higher education are taken into account to determine approval to take the exam.
Study material are distributed to personnel when they receive pre-approval to take the exam prior to attending the course. Otherwise, the study material is distributed at the start of the course or provided by the district roadside unit.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
Identify tree groups, basic tree damage, basic tree biology and simple tree risk assessments are the main focus an attendee will gain from the course. Additional information will also be provided to prepare attendees for the exam if applicable. Attendees will greatly enhance their learning experience by covering the training material in the study guide prior to attending the course.

Awarding continuing education credits (PDH/CEU/CEH) to a training course or other training event does not imply or guarantee that the training course/event is approved by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Land Surveyors.

According to Pennsylvania Act 25, “Credit determination for activities…shall be the responsibility of the licensee.  Continuing professional competency obtained by a licensee should maintain, improve or expand skills or knowledge obtained prior to initial licensure, including law and ethics applicable to the profession, or develop new and relevant skills and knowledge.”
