General Information

Summary:	Geographic Information System (GIS) is a mapping application that combines layers of data through structured queries to analyze spatial relationships. It is a highly valuable tool available to support the transportation related functions of PennDOT. Data from many systems, such as Roadway Management System (RMS), Multimodal Project Management System (MPMS), Bridge Management System (BMS2), Plant Maintenance (PM), Crash Data Analysis and Retrieval Tool (CDART), and Customer Care Concern System (CCC) is available in GIS to support the Department’s objectives in design, construction and maintenance.
Learning Outcomes:	Upon successful completion of this Course, the attendee will: 1.Provide a brief overview of the Geographic Information System. 2.Identify the engineering applications of GIS in PennDOT. 3.Discuss the use of GIS in planning to support asset management and maintenance.
