General Information

Summary:
Concrete overlay is a thin layer concrete resurfacing of existing asphalt cement, Portland cement concrete or composite pavements. Bonded and unbonded concrete overlays may be cost effective solutions to extend the pavement service life. The Webinar will address the differences between bonded and unbonded concrete overlays on asphalt and concrete pavements. The design mechanics of the function of the overlays will be discussed. Construction placement, finishing, and curing information will be provided, along with the maintenance requirements of overlays. The Department’s policy on the usage of overlays will also be presented.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this Course, the attendee will be able to:
1. Present the differences between bonded and unbonded overlays.
2. Identify the application of the overlays that may be beneficial to the Department.
3. Provide the construction details and the maintenance requirements of overlays.

Target Audience:
All professional licensees in PennDOT and anyone interested in learning about Bonded and Unbonded Concrete Overlays.
