General Information

Summary:
Crack Sealing provides an understanding of the importance of properly sealing cracks on bituminous roadways in order to extend the life of the road.
The proper operating procedures for a safe and efficient crack sealing operation as well as applicable PennDOT standards and specifications will be discussed.

Learning Outcomes:
- List the reference documents and safety requirements to review prior to crack sealing.
- Explain what cracks to seal.
- Identify pavement distress that requires crack sealing as a treatment.
- Prioritize projects based on a preventive maintenance philosophy
- Apply the correct operational procedures to ensure a quality project
- Perform the operation utilizing maximum safety practices

Target Audience:
Highway Maintenance foreman, Assistant County Maintenance manager, crew members associated with the operation.
