Summary: | This course will cover basic overviews of required maintenance planning practices, to include an overview SAP PM tools/resources. Long range (strategic) planning, surface improvement planning, 213 program planning, annual work planning, period planning, and weekly planning will be covered. In addition, the applicable SAP functionality/transactions as well as BW reports will be reviewed, demonstrating how they can be used to effectively develop plans, as well as manage/monitor plan compliance. The course is intended to set minimum guidelines that should be followed in all Districts and Counties, bringing a consistent approach to how this critical Department function is completed.

Learning Outcomes: | * Understand basic structure/hierarchy of maintenance planning, and how differing levels of planning relate to one another/can be used to accomplish your organization's goal. * Understand importance of SAP notifications and how this inventory of needs is the foundation for effectively planning maintenance operations. * Understand policy requirements associated with planning (Maintenance Manual Chapter 3). * Be aware of what is available through SAP and BW, as well as how it can be effectively used to monitor activities/achieve success. * Establish minimum expectations associated with planning as well as use of SAP/BW.

Target Audience: | It is mandatory for all PennDOT personnel involved with maintenance planning activities, including: Highway Maintenance Managers, Assistant Highway Maintenance Managers, Roadway Program Coordinators/Specialists, Assistant District Executive for Maintenance, as well as other District support staff such as Roadway Program Managers.
